What you Can Do

This quote by John Wooden has been my inspiration over the last couple of days. What I am learning by following this quote is that investing time in  thinking through what you CAN do and doing it, is not only fulfilling but also opens room for exponential growth.

Thinking through a list of what you cannot do at any given time is a time waster and the results are none other than giving up, stagnation and frustration. Personally, I found myself thinking that I cannot beat my own running speed and this thought has affected my running capabilities. I used to run at a speed of 5-6 min/mile; the last time I run at this speed was in 2014.  My speed has gone down to 9 -10 min/mile. I have realized even when I talk about my runs I always say “I used to run at 5 min/mile, but I don’t know if I can do that anymore.”  This negative thought has made it harder to get back to my desired speed since I am always feeding this self-doubt. This however, does not hold me back from running, I do it anyway and now that I recognize the negativity that I have been feeding myself. I will take strides in removing those thoughts and pushing myself to greater speeds.

This isn’t just about running, focusing on negative thoughts and what we cannot do affects all areas of our life. Everybody wants to experience growth in their business, personal and professional life. It’s time to flip that switch. Start by thinking about a goal and then write down the things that you can do now to achieve it (it doesn’t matter how simple, small or big it is, actually the smaller the step the better). Begin to think in terms of progress. What little steps can I take now to achieve my goal?

Remember what you think…you do, what you do…you become, I encourage you today to take a step toward what you CAN do.
